This artistic composition interprets Verse 60 from Surah Al-Anfal: “And prepare for them whatever you able to of force and of tethered horses cavalry (وأعدوا لهم ما استطعتم من قوة ومن رباط الخيل)”. By weaving the Diwani script into the silhouette of an Arabian horse head, this piece creates a powerful visual metaphor for the strength and readiness described in the verse.
The design uses the expressive, cursive nature of the Diwani script to trace the profile of a horse, turning the calligraphy itself into the anatomy of the animal. Below this figurative display, the same verse is inscribed in a clean, authoritative horizontal line of Classical Thuluth, providing a grounded, readable contrast to the ornate silhouette above.
This project utilizes a dual-script approach. Diwani is used for the horse silhouette due to its flexibility and elongated, sweeping strokes, while Classical Thuluth is used for the horizontal text to provide the gravitas and clarity necessary for a verse about strength and preparation.
Construction involved drafting the horse head silhouette as a guide, then meticulously “flowing” the Diwani letterforms along the contours of the muzzle, mane, and neck. We ensured that the legibility of the words remained intact despite the figurative shape. The piece was then vectorized, with each curve of the horse’s profile smoothed for professional output, ensuring the Thuluth line below remains perfectly straight and sharp.
