This project presents the iconic Verse of Light (آية النور) from Surah Al-Nur (Verse 35). Rendered in the majestic Thuluth Jali script and flanked by intricate, star-like arabesque ornaments, this piece honors the luminosity of the verse through high-caliber, professional calligraphy.
The design focuses on radiance and symmetry. By arranging the verse in two clean, horizontal lines and framing the ends with star-like arabesque patterns, we mimic the “light upon light” metaphor. The composition is clean and orderly, allowing the weight of the Thuluth Jali script to command the space while the ornaments provide a subtle, luminous decorative accent.
Thuluth Jali was selected for its authoritative stature. Its wide, bold strokes carry the weight necessary for a verse of such cosmic significance. The “Jali” style ensures that even the most complex ligatures within the long verse remain clear, legible, and visually balanced across the composition.
Construction involved creating a harmonious grid for the two horizontal lines to ensure equal spacing. The arabesque “stars” were drafted to complement the terminal strokes of the Thuluth script. After perfecting the layout, we vectorized the entire piece. We performed manual node-editing to ensure the curves of the Thuluth strokes and the complex geometry of the star ornaments are mathematically perfect and sharp.
