This project presents the full name “Yahya Hamzeh – يحيى حمزة” rendered in the sophisticated Thuluth Jali script. The goal for this commission was to create a unified visual emblem that weaves the two names into one intricate, harmonious structure while maintaining the legibility expected of high-end calligraphy.
The design philosophy here was based on the concept of “Tashkeel” and “Tarkib,” or the artistic interlocking of letters. By stacking the two names, we created a dense, semi-spherical composition where the letters of the first name anchor the top and the surname flows through the lower section. This creates a balanced visual weight that turns the name into a refined signature mark.
We utilized the Thuluth Jali script for its incredible versatility in complex layouts. Unlike basic scripts, Thuluth Jali allows for the graceful overlapping of letterforms without creating visual clutter. This style ensures the artwork possesses a regal, architectural quality suitable for prominent display.
Every stroke was hand-drawn to ensure the anatomical correctness of each character. A major challenge in this commission was balancing the letters. We manually adjusted the heights and curvatures of these letters to create a rhythm that feels intentional. By treating the two names as a single structural unit, we ensured the composition feels organic rather than two separate parts placed side by side.
