This project presents the foundational prayer “Alhamdulillah Rabb Al-Alamin (الحمد لله رب العالمين)” Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Universe, in the ornate Diwani Jali script. Encased in a perfect oval form with expressive, cursive terminals, this piece serves as a sophisticated testament to gratitude and the majesty of the Divine.
The design focuses on Centricity and Expansion. By housing the prayer within an oval core and allowing two primary letters to extend outward in cursive arcs, the composition creates a visual “outward flow,” representing the infinite reach of God’s lordship and the sincerity of human praise.
We utilized Diwani Jali for its dense, ornamental character. Its capacity for intricate ligatures and “Jali” (bold) weight makes it ideal for an oval composition, where every millimeter of space must contribute to the overall rhythmic balance of the piece.
Construction involved mapping the oval geometry and weaving the text to fill the negative space. We specifically designed the two central letters to break the boundary of the oval, adding a dynamic, sculptural element to the final form. The design was then vectorized, with manual node-editing to ensure the cursive terminals and the ornate Diwani dots are perfectly sharp.
